Haussler faced setback after setback through injury and heartbreak in 2017, barely racing in the colours of his new team Bahrain Merida.
But after ticking off his 2017 worlds KPIs in the service of bronze medallist Michael Matthews, Bahrain Merida offered him another year and he took the leap.
In 2018, Haussler went from strength to strength, faithfully supporting his leader Vincenzo Nibali nearly everywhere the Italian raced including some notable spring classics and the Tour de France. Bahrain Merida rewarded his performance and loyalty with a new two-year contract.
“I’m super happy to say I can be part of this great team for another two years," Heinrich Haussler said in the team announcement.
"Especially, this year being able to race again and be a part of some very nice team victories has helped me back to loving the sport of cycling.”
Bahrain Merida general manager Brent Copeland said the 34-year-old's race craft and experience are invaluable to the team.
"Heinrich is a rider that brings a wealth of experience to the team. He is a rider who can cover many different roles as well as supporting the young up and coming riders.
"We saw the professional effort and dedication he put in after his injury from last year. This not only shows what a true professional he is, but also the love he has for this sport and our team.
"We are very pleased to keep Heinrich with us and know that the fans are just as excited as us to see him in the Bahrain Merida jersey.”
