What is the Sydney Marathon?
The Sydney Marathon is a long-distance race that first featured at the Olympic Games in 2000, before becoming its own standalone event in 2001.
Since then, the race has been held each year aside from 2020 and 2021 which were not held due to the coronavirus pandemic.
More than 40,000 participants are expected to tackle the iconic course, as Sydney hosts its second marathon since becoming a Major in November 2024.
Other World Marathon Majors include: Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York, and Cape Town.
Where to watch Sydney Marathon
The Sydney Marathon will be available on both SBS and SBS On Demand, with live coverage beginning at 6:30am (AEST).
Coverage on SBS will conclude at 10:30am, with SBS On Demand then live-streaming the rest of the event until 1:30pm.
Race details
The 2026 race will span 42.195km, beginning in Miller Street, North Sydney, before concluding in front of the Sydney Opera House.
Participants will take in some of the city's most recognisable sights during their travels, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Centennial Park, and Mrs Macquarie's Chair in the Royal Botanic Garden.

A full race replay will be made available to Australian audiences via SBS On Demand shortly after coverage has ended.
