I left Juventus because of Sarri, says Can

Emre Can revealed he left Juventus for Borussia Dortmund on loan in the January transfer window because of coach Maurizio Sarri.

Can returned to the Bundesliga with Dortmund, initially on loan for a fee of  €1 million (A$1.8m) and the transfer will become permanent if agreed parameters are met.

The Germany international featured frequently for Juve under previous coach Massimiliano Allegri - 37 appearances in his first season - but found game time extremely hard to come by after Sarri took over.

"The main reason I left Juventus was because I wanted to play football again," the 26-year-old all-action midfielder said to German publication Kicker.

"Obviously the possibility of participating in the European Championships also had an impact. I want to be part of the German national side.

"Sarri arrived in the summer and hadn’t trained us in the first few weeks because he had pneumonia.

"Then, after the club had refused offers for me and taken me off the market, he called me and with a 20-second phone call announced that I wasn’t on the Champions League list.

"After that call, I was denied any chance. I thought it was unfair and that’s why I decided to move on in January.

"But the decision has nothing to do with the club, nor the fans."

Can received a red card for an altercation with Neymar on Thursday (AEDT) as Paris Saint-Germain knocked Borussia Dortmund out of the UEFA Champions League.
