International stars lined up for bushfire relief clash at ANZ Stadium

A platoon of international stars will jet to Sydney in May to play a bushfire relief fundraiser at ANZ Stadium aimed at generating millions of dollars for those affected by the infernos ripping through Australia.

The charity clash is the brainchild of Lou Sticca, the Melbourne-based match promoter and agent previously responsible for bringing out the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham on blockbuster tours Down Under.

Sticca, who also instigated the groundbreaking A-League stints of Alessandro Del Piero and Dwight Yorke, trumpeted the star-spangled match on Twitter on Sunday, with the beneficiaries those suffering as a result of the blazes.

“Stay tuned for a major announcement in regards to world footballers coming out to play in a special one-off game in Australia to raise millions of dollars for the victims of devastating bushfires currently ravaging our country," said Sticca, who heads up the Tribal Sports Group.

In light of Sticca’s previously fruitful relationship with ANZ chiefs, the stadium is natural stage for a showpiece contest which, in addition to big-name foreign players, will feature a number of Australian stars.

Whilst a host of leading European and South American players will be otherwise engaged in May at the European Championships and Copa America, Sticca is targeting high-profile performers not involved in those tournaments to show their altruistic sides in support of a worthy cause.

He remained guarded on the details when approached by The World Game, saying that specifics would be forthcoming, and adding it was all about “international soccer stars who want to help our country”.

The likes of pop singer Pink and actress Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban have donated $1 million between them in separate initiatives.
