The Specialized Amira road bike is the bike of choice for the Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team, and a popular pick among female riders more broadly.

The performance-oriented bike is one of a few high-end options designed for women. The range extends from the pro-level S-Works build to a mid-range Shimano 105 specced Sport model. The more affordable builds benefit from the same research into frame geometry, fit and the rider’s experiential goals as the pro model.

While in Rotorua recently for the Specialized Destination Trail media campCycling Central sat down for a chat with the company’s Global PR Manager, Katie Sue Gruener.

We asked her what makes this design well-suited to women, how Specialized’s partnership with the Boels-Dolmans team contributes to product design and what other feedback the company have been getting from female riders globally.

A lot of women think hard about whether to buy a racier feeling bike like the Amira, or other bikes in a given range. Listen here for Gruener’s insights on this side of the decision making process.
