Jones beaten twice as Excelsior end winless run

Tom van Weert netted his second brace of the season as Excelsior returned to winning ways with a much-needed 2-0 victory over Brad Jones's NEC Nijmegen at Stadion Woudestein.

Australia goalkeeper Jones played a full game but Excelsior, who had slipped to 16th after a winless run of 12 Eredivisie matches, took the lead as Van Weert fired home from the edge of the box after 13 minutes.

The striker added his second of the match - and eighth of the season - within the last 10 minutes when he connected with Adil Auassar's throughball.

Excelsior are now level on points with 15th-placed Willem II, who face Vitesse Arnhem later this weekend, while the visitors missed the chance to go fourth as they remain four places further back having collected only two points in February.
