Juric on brink of signing for CSKA Sofia after Luzern exit

Tomi Juric has been linked with an imminent move to Bulgaria, where he is reportedly set to sign with 32-time champions CSKA Sofia.

The Socceroos striker has been in limbo since parting company with Swiss outfit FC Luzern at the end of last season.

However media outlets in Bulgaria report that the 28-year-old is in the capital city to undergo a medical before putting pen to paper on a multi-year deal.

Sources close to the striker, who is looking to force his way back on the national team stage, claim that a deal has yet to be agreed.

However, indications are that Juric’s search for a club may be over as he prepares to link up with much-travelled Bosnian coach Ljupko Petrović.

CSKA, who haven’t won a championship since 2008, finished runners up in the First League last season and sit fifth on the ladder seven games into the new campaign, having been eliminated already in the Europa League qualifiers.

After missing out on selection for January’s AFC Asian Cup, Juric is looking to build momentum after a forgettable final season with Luzern, where he made just seven appearances without scoring.

He accumulated 15 goals in his previous 57 games for the club he joined from Roda JC in 2016.

The ex-Western Sydney Wanderers marksman was Australia’s second-choice striker at last year’s World Cup where he struggled to make an impact.

However, if he can relight the fires then Australia coach Graham Arnold won’t hesitate to offer a recall for the long qualification campaign for Qatar 2022.
