Australian striker Kerr has been the leading light for the Chicago-based team all season, but started off the game in slightly wasteful fashion for the Red Stars, finding herself frustrated in trying to break the deadlock.
Kerr finally got her name on the scoresheet in the 44th minute with a shot that went in at the far post, netting her 13th goal of the season.
Kerr then turned provider just before the first half drew to a close.
Morgan Brien sent a well-weighted ball to Kerr on the right, with the Australian striker dropping the ball back to meet Vanessa Dibernardo’s run into the box. The midfielder confidently struck it home, and the Red Stars were up 2-0 at the break.
Kerr finished off an all-round performance with her second goal of the game in the 59th minute, stealing the ball off Socceroos teammate Alanna Kennedy as the Orlando Pride defender dribbled out of the box, turning and firing to set up Red Stars with an unassailable lead.
Orlando fought back, led by star player Marta, but they could only grab a consolation goal through Alex Morgan in the 65th minute.
With their eighth win, Kerr and Chicago Red Stars jump up to 4th on the NWSL table with 34 points.
