It goes without saying Oprah is an American institution and she commands the highest respect as a chat-show queen, which in turn demands a global viewing audience, but when she said was "mesmerized" by Armstrong's retort during the two-part, two-and-a-half-hour session, I become sceptical.
As part of her research I hope Oprah had read Tyler Hamilton's explosive insight on doping in his book "The Secret Race". This was a sensational piece that really has mesmerized many on the practices that took place during cycling's so-called "dark era."
For Lance to come clean he must point the finger at team members, administrators, sponsors and even politicians who may have been closely linked with any cover-up. But is Oprah the right person to grill Lance on such topics?
I would have brought in the experienced big-guns from American Network TV to conduct the interview rather than a host of a program whose guests are known to have "jumped on Oprah's couch" (cue Tom Cruise.)
It seems Armstrong may be taking the easy option and when Oprah says "he was well prepared," I'm starting to doubt that we will learn anything new from the admission.
Let's hope the world' biggest sporting scandal is ultimately not linked to the world's greatest PR stunt. I hope I'm wrong we'll have to wait and see.
