Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious) crashed out of the Giro d’Italia after an incident during the final kilometres of stage 5 to Cattolica where a number of riders fell after a collision with a race marshal signalling some traffic furniture in the middle of the road. Landa's team, Bahrain Victorious, confirmed that he had suffered a broken clavicle.
“In the final kilometres of the race, Mikel Landa was taken down in a crash involving three other riders after a collision at a traffic island," read the press release. "Landa has been taken to Riccione Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for a broken collarbone and multiple ribs on his left side."
Pavel Sivakov fell earlier in the race with 16 kilometres remaining, the INEOS rider being nudged into the gutter after a chain reaction from deeper within the peloton. The Russian rider picked himself up and after considering abandoning right there, did finish the race 13 minutes down.

He was then taken to hospital for scans which confirmed a fractured clavicle for the pre-race joint leader of the premier British squad.
Joe Dombrowski (UAE Team Emirates), leader of the mountains classification, also crashed at the same point as Landa, but was able to eventually ride slowly to the finish 8:15 behind winner Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal). His team issued a Tweet saying that Dombrowski would be tested properly for a concussion in the morning.
Francois Bidard (AG2R Citroën) was caught up in the same crash but finished the stage just a little ahead of Dombrowski, eight minutes down. His team later confirmed that he had fractured his left clavicle, with the Frenchman forced to leave the race as a result.
Landa, however, was unable to get up. He was eventually placed into an ambulance and taken to a local hospital with scans showing the more extensive fractures to the Spaniard's ribs as well as the collarbone.
