James Milner and Sadio Mane were on target as Liverpool made it back-to-back wins to start the Premier League season with a 2-0 win against a 10-man Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The win moves Liverpool to second spot on the Premier League table with Jurgen Klopp's side making it six points and two clean sheets from their opening fixtures.

Klopp named an unchanged side from their opening round win against West Ham but took a more reserved approach to their usual fast tempo style during the opening stages.

Palace had the best chance of the half when Andros Townsend's curling shot from 30 yards out clattered against the cross bar.

Salah spurned a gilt-edged chance not long after when his attempted lob over Eagles shot stopper Wayne Hennessy sailed over the bar.

Liverpool were lucky to go into the sheds with a 1-0 lead with Milner coolly converting from the penalty spot after Mo Salah was taken down in the box.

Palace looked to fight back in the second stanza and forced two great saves out of Red's keeper Alisson courtesy of a Luka Milivojevic free kick and Christian Benteke header.

Roy Hodgson made a raft of changes midway through the half bringing on Alexander Sorloth, Joel Ward and new signing Max Meyer in an attempt to punish their opponents tiring defence.

However, Hodgson's changes proved futile when his side were forced to play a man down after young full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent for an early shower for late desperation challenge on Salah.

Palace rolled the dice deep in injury time in an attempt to snatch a point but it backfired miserably as Mane used his lighting pace to score after a length of the field counter attack.
