It’s understood Roar coach Robbie Fowler is unlikely to stand in the way of the former Australian youth international, who is also attracting heavy interest from Western United.
Mauk, 24, has made nine appearances this season, having joined Brisbane on a four-year deal from NEC Nijmegen, where he managed just two appearances for the Eredivisie club.
The Bulls, who are in the process of building their inaugural squad, have been linked with a plethora of players in recent weeks, some substantively and some erroneously.
Milos Ninkovic is one high profile target that got away, instead re-signing for Sydney FC, whilst off-contract Sky Blues midfielder Luke Brattan is also high on their wanted list.
Brattan, though, may ultimately end up in Asia off the back of his outstanding form so far this season.
Failing that, he could still re-sign for Sydney, or even return to his roots with Brisbane.
Former Melbourne City and Adelaide United man Mauk, at least for one, appears to be headed south to join his fourth A-League club, where it’s likely he’ll be deployed in a more advanced role.
Nominally a No.10, Mauk has been used more as No.6 or No.8 this season without necessarily consistently stamping his authority on matches.
Mauk played for Brisbane’s NYL side on Saturday to gain some match minutes after finding himself on the bench for the Roar’s last two matches against Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers.
