Marseille were relieved to take a point from the clash at the Stade Velodrome, twice coming from behind as first Remy Cabella and then Bouna Sarr pegged back the visitors.

Cabella scored against his former club but it was Ninga who took centre stage as the Chad striker netted his fourth league goal since arriving in the northern summer.

The draw leaves Marseille ninth in the table, having failed to win any of their last six league games at home, while Montpellier are 16th, one point clear of the relegation zone.

Bordeaux put some distance between themselves and the drop zone with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Guingamp who slip to 17th and just one point above third-bottom Bastia.

Les Girondins took until the 62nd minute to break the deadlock when Cedric Yambere headed home Wahbi Khazri's corner.

Rennes' search for a first league win in four was ruined after Valentin Eyserric's late penalty claimed a point for St Etienne in a 1-1 draw.

The visitors grabbed the lead five minutes from the interval when Giovanni Sio's cross found Pedro Henrique and some lapse defending allowed the Brazilian to open the scoring.

Despite trailing, St Etienne continued to create the better chances but Neal Maupay was guilty of the biggest miss midway through the second half when he failed to head on target from Kevin Monnet-Pacquet's dangerous delivery.

Then, with 12 minutes to play, Les Verts got their deserved leveller when Eysseric scored from the penalty spot after Romain Hamouma was felled by Sylvain Armand.
