Matildas stars Foord and Kerr to face off in Cup final

Matildas teammates and close friends Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord will go head to head on Sunday morning (AEDT) as Arsenal and Chelsea play-off in the FA Women’s Super League Cup final.

Kerr has quickly become a key cog in Chelsea’s attack this season and put in a huge 90 minute shift during a 3-3 draw with Manchester City last weekend.

Despite this, the superstar striker says she is a long way from truly finding her feet in England and is desperate to add to her return of only one goal and one assist from her five games with the Blues. 

Foord, has also hit the ground running since joining Arsenal earlier this month, scoring a goal on debut in The Gunner’s League Cup win against Lewes.

The debut showing from the former Sydney FC star could sway Arsenal’s Australian coach Joe Montemurro to select her in the starting line-up for the crunch clash.

The prospect of playing in a cup final in only her second game for the English giants has Foord champing at the bit.

“I’m excited to play in a Cup Final,” Foord told Arsenal TV ahead of the match.

“It’s quite cool to come into a team and go straight into a final and I feel really lucky to be a part of.

"I’m just looking forward to it and helping the team as much as I can.”

Kerr’s Blues have the upper hand going into the match with two wins from two games against the Gunners this season.

While they may be the best of friends off the field, expect no pleasantries from the Matildas superstars with the chance of winning their first piece of silverware in England’s top flight goes on the line.
