The Mariners were hoping to have McCormack back fit for Monday's match with Perth Glory but, according to the Daily Mail, it appears the 32-year-old may have played his final game in Australia.
Having spent the past month receiving treatment for a knee injury with parent club Villa, the striker was spotted in Scotland on Sunday (AEDT) attending former club Motherwell's 2-1 Premiership victory over Hamilton.
Such a sight has led many to believe the ex-Leeds and Fulham forward could be negotiating a release from the Mariners in time for the January transfer window.
McCormack spent two seasons with Motherwell between 2006 and 2008, scoring 14 goals in 57 games.
