The 27-year-old was loaned out to K League 1 runners-up Gangwon last season, making 15 appearances in an unfamiliar defensive midfield role.
The desire to return to his favoured position at the back was a factor in the decision to move on, with Portuguese parent club Pacos Ferreira sanctioning his departure.
McGowan, who made his sole Socceroos appearance in 2017, will view the impending switch as a third coming to Europe.
He never made a senior league appearance in Portugal but did feature in five cup games, having signed from Adelaide United in mid-2017.
He racked up 64 appearances for Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership before his switch to home town club Adelaide United in 2014.
“I can confirm that Dylan’s heading back to Europe on a multi-year deal, which will begin in January,” said his agent Buddy Farrah.
“He’s going to a good league and is looking to hopefully put himself in back in contention for the national team again.”
