Morton passes halfway mark of Alt Tour trek

Lachlan Morton continues to lead the Tour de France peloton on his Alt Tour quest, having completed both the Alps and two passes of Mont Ventoux en route to Carcassonne.

The EF Education-Nippo rider currently sits 850 kilometres in front of the peloton as he aims to raise funds for the World Bicycle Relief.

Morton has covered over 3,000 of the total 5,510 kilometres thus far and recently passed the halfway mark during the journey over Mont Ventoux, where Tour riders will contest Stage 11.

Despite clocking 123 total hours in the saddle, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the 29-year-old, who admitted the soggy conditions through the climbs had taken their toll.

“I was there pretty much by myself,” he said of the ‘Giant of Provence’.

“It felt like a religious moment – not so often you get this mountain all to yourself.”

“My feet are just angry in general,” he added, this time about the wet weather.

“Ironically the sandals caused the issue, and now they’re going to be the resolution.”

Morton’s Alt Tour has raised over £225,000 (A$414,500) thus far, all of which will help provide young people with a Buffalo Bicycle.

The Tour de France continues tonight with Stage 11 and you can catch all the action from 8:30pm (AEST) on SBS and SBS On Demand, with the SKODA Tour Tracker app commencing at 7:50pm (AEST).
