Salah’s solo strike for Liverpool against Everton, in last season's Merseyside derby in Decemeber, was a surprise goal of the year winner at the FIFA Best Awards in London on Tuesday (AEST), shocking both players and fans alike.
The Egyptian’s effort beat Cristiano Ronaldo’s gravity-defying bicycle kick, from Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final win against Juventus, Gareth Bale's acrobatic finish in the final and Riley McGree’s unbelievable scorpion kick goal from Newcastle Jets' A-League semi-final win over Melbourne City.
Ibrahimovic, the 2013 Puskas winner as well as a three-time award nominee, delivered an emphatic 'no' when asked by The World Game if he thought Salah was a deserving winner of this year’s honour.
The record-setting striker said he enjoyed Ronaldo’s overhead kick, but he had a cheeky response when asked what he thought of this season’s nominees.
"I didn’t really see the candidates because if my goal was not there, I was not interested," Ibrahimovic said.
"My goal should have been there - against LAFC (on April 1) - or any of my other 500 goals.
"We'll see, maybe I'm there next year."
