Northern Territory to kick-off football restart in Australia - WATCH via TWG

Football Northern Territory will become the first Australian state or territory to recommence competitive football with crowds following the COVID-19 pandemic and Australians will be able to watch via The World Game website and app.

The Northern Territory Women’s and Men’s Premier League restart their seasons from 7pm (AEST) on Friday night, with a double header taking place at Darwin Football Stadium.

Both games will be open to spectators, meaning the fixtures will also be among the first football games in the world to be played in front of a crowd since the coronavirus.

In another first for Football Northern Territory, the Women’s Premier League game will be available via The World Game website and app.

Football Northern Territory CEO Bruce Stalder said gates will be open for spectators, with crowd numbers restricted to a maximum of 500 to help maintain social distancing requirements.

“We met with health officials during the week and confirmed we were able to host a crowd at the Darwin Football Stadium, which is a great privilege in this current environment," Stalder said.

"All those attending will be reminded of the protocols required to adhere to social distancing rules throughout the evening. 

“Our clubs have been asked to strictly adhere to government advice and implement special guidelines for our community to follow, and they have done an amazing job so far."
