The improved offering - which kicks off today - from Optus was in response to increasing consumer backlash to the company’s original package pricing, which charged football fans $15 per month for access to EPL content on top of their monthly Optus phone plane costs.
Optus are now offering access to the EPL at a starting point of $30 per month on a 12-month mobile plan.
Certain plans costing $85 or more per month will have football coverage included at no extra cost.
“Today, we’re shaking up the market even more by offering our customers more of the content they love. From data free prepaid music streaming, to the Premier League, Optus is changing people’s expectations of their telco provider,” Optus Managing Director of Marketing and Product Ben White said.
“To celebrate our first Premier League season, we’re making it more affordable than ever by giving customers their first season for free on a range of plans from as little as $30 a month.”
The price cut is only a short-term offer with customers that sign-up after 31 July to be charged as per Optus’ original price point.
Optus have also allayed the fears of EPL fans with other internet service providers after they announced a 24 hour football channel would be available through the soon to be launched Yes TV by Fetch Mini device for $5 per month - if they sign up to an eligible mobile plan.
Optus will announce more details on a satellite service for EPL service in July.
