Former Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins has extended his contract with Team Sky until April.

The deal, which was given a special approval by the International Cycling Union, will see Wiggins race Paris-Roubaix on April 12, before switching back to the track to focus on a full-time preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

"Everyone knows what this team means to me," Wiggins said in a statement on the Team Sky website on Monday.

"I've had some amazing experiences and I hope there are a few more to come.

"Paris-Roubaix is a special race for me and I'm determined to give it another go in Team Sky colours. It's one of the toughest races in the calendar and my aim is to improve on my ninth-place finish last year.

"After that I can focus fully on preparing for the Rio Olympics in 2016."

Wiggins joined Sky at its inception in 2010, and made history two years later by becoming the first British rider to win the Tour.

To date, he has claimed 23 victories in the team's colours.

"We're delighted that Bradley's extended his contract with Team Sky into 2015," said team principal Dave Brailsford.

"He's been with Team Sky since the beginning and during that time he's been an incredible ambassador for cycling and an inspiration to millions of people around the world."

SBS will broadcast and stream the Paris-Roubaix LIVE on 12 April.

Bradley Wiggins like you've never seen him before, on the Graham Norton Show.
