The 34 year-old is off contract at the end of the season and reportedly has been approached by Perth.

Carrick would fill one of the club's marquee positions, one of which is currently occupied by Diego Castro who has not yet re-signed for the upcoming season.

It is understood that Castro is seeking a significant pay hike to stay in the west after winning the Johnny Warren medal for best A-League player this season.

A week ago, Perth's owner Tony Sage said, “keeping him is our top priority but you can’t force people to do things."

The club has reportedly received the approval from Football Federation Australia, who would partly subsidise Carrick's contract under the new marquee system.

Four Four Two reports that the opportunity emerged due to Carrick's relationship with Perth's captain Richard Garcia, who played with Carrick at West Ham between 1999 and 2004.

Carrick has played 40 times this season for Manchester United and is a five time Premier League champion. He also won the Champions League with United in 2008.

The interest in Carrick comes after a flurry of recent signings, including Australia representatives Chris Herd and Rhys Williams.

Glory coach Kenny Lowe is due to be in the UK and Spain this week to look at nine players – six of whom are based in England.
