Preview: Giro d'Italia Stage 12

Stage 12 is flat, flat, flat and gives the sprinters another chance at a stage win, provided they’ve recovered well enough from the mountains.

Traversing 182km from Noale to Bibione, Stage 12 runs almost entirely along wide and straight roads.

Initially, the route follows the Riviera del Brenta, then it enters the province of Treviso along trunk roads. There are roundabouts, kerbs, speed bumps and traffic dividers in urban areas, especially in Mestre, Treviso and Portogruaro.

The route finally reaches Bibione where riders will complete two laps of an eight kilometre circuit. This circuit features 14 bends and long straight stretches, on mostly wide and well-surfaced roads.

The home straight is 300m long, on a 7.5m wide asphalt road.
Bob Jungels (Etixx-QuickStep) will start the day in the Maglia Rosa again after fighting all the way to the finish line in Stage 11 to hold a 24 second buffer over Andrey Amador (Movistar).

Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) will be a marked man on the run in to the finish line. With two stage wins to his name and key rival Marcel Kittel (Etixx-QuickStep) having left the race after the first week, less pressure for Griepel to perform could make him even stronger on the dash to the line.

Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo) achieved his 25th top 10 finish in the Giro last night but is yet to achieve his first stage victory. Caleb Ewan (Orica-GreenEDGE) is another rider to watch, patiently hunting down his first Giro stage win and gaining more experience by the day.
