Rasmos was only suspended for the match after getting himself deliberately yellow carded in the first leg - a tactic commonly used by players to restart their yellow card count. UEFA later ruled that Ramos had indeed earned his yellow card on purpose.
Madrid were 2-1 up in Amsterdam when Ramos decided, with the approval of his coach Santiago Solari, to earn a yellow card to ensure he would be free to play in the quarter-finals stage.
Ramos and the reigning champions clearly underestimated Ajax, and were accused of arrogance for already planning for the quarter-finals with 90 minutes still to play in the round-of-16 tie.
The decision clearly backfired, as Ramos sat in his personal VIP box at the Bernabeu watching on as Madrid completely collapsed against the Dutch side to lose 4-1 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate.
It's the first time since 2015 that Real Madrid has been knocked out of the Champions League.
To make matters worse for Ramos, his replacement Nacho had a poor game culminating in a late red card.
This all unfolded while Ramos was captured by photographers at the Bernabeu recording his personal documentary for Amazon.
