With Madrid in Australia for the International Champions Cup, Butragueno took the opportunity to share his thoughts on sport’s increasing importance within modern culture at the launch of the unique initiative.

“Sport today has evolved into a mass phenomenon influencing societies, cultures and economies,” Butrgueno said.

“As a result, we now need professionals with sports-focused expertise in business, management, finance and communications, and the launch of this joint MBA program will help fulfil that need.”

Butragueno enjoyed an illustrious career spanning over 12 seasons playing for Real.

Known as ‘The Vulture’, he amassed an astonishing 341 games for Real Madrid, scoring 123 goals in the process.

Butragueno represented Spain at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, where he was his nation's top scorer, and also four years later at Italia '90.
