In all, more than 100 national champions will be crowned in the criterium, road race and time trial in the categories of elite, para-cycling, under 23, under 19, intellectually impaired and deaf in addition to Gran Fondo, club teams and masters national championship events.

SBS will broadcast live the Elite Men's and Elite Women's road races (Under 23 women included within the Elite race)and live stream the Under 23 men's road race, with highlights of all other events available on SBS On Demand and the SBS Cycling Central website.

'RoadNats22' will open on Wednesday, January 12 at Federation University’s Mt Helen campus where the race against the clock, the time trial, will take centre stage for the first two days of competition. Young stars of the sport Lucas Plapp and Sarah Gigante currently hold the elite titles, but with Gigante unlikely to compete, and Plapp in Europe, it may open the door for others to claim the national jerseys.
The action returns to the streets of the Ballarat CBD on Friday for high octane criterium action which will culminate with the world’s best during the twilight racing on Sturt Street. The elite races will be live-streamed via SBS On Demand.

All eyes then turn to the Mt Buninyong circuit for the now-traditional tackling of the hilly course in the road races. The recent editions of the race have been fantastic affairs for fans of attacking and unpredictable racing and we'll be hoping for more of the same in 2022.

For the first time ever the Under 23 men's road race will be live-streamed on SBS On Demand on Saturday, giving fans the chance to see the next generation of Aussie talent in action. The elite men's and women's races will be broadcast live on 'Super Sunday' on SBS and SBS On Demand.

"We are excited that the AusCycling Federation University Road National Championships will be one of Australia's first major sporting events of 2022," said AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner.
"As the country emerges from COVID lockdowns, it is events like these that bring the community back together and importantly support our economic recovery. The opportunity for our elite to get back to racing and showcase not only the depth of our talent, but the great sport of road cycling will be a welcome start to the year.

"Road Nationals will bring thousands of members, cyclists, fans, event staff and volunteers from across the country to regional Victoria for what will be one of the biggest Championships in history. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Ballarat in January."
