Roar ready to make it finals football on two fronts

The whiff of finals football has become too much to resist for A-League champion Brisbane Roar as it attempts to reach the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League, in addition to the domestic competition.

Perth's salary cap dramas have gifted Roar an A-League play-off appearance - now it wants to earn another in the Champions League.

That will be easier said than done - especially with its trip to Beijing Guoan in China on Tuesday night.

The Beijing juggernaut has not been beaten since August 2014 - a remarkable string of 21 games without tasting defeat.

Yet Brisbane is daring to dream after being guaranteed an A-League finals appearance a week out from the domestic play-offs' kick-off due to Perth's troubles.

Brisbane (four points) is currently third in its ACL group behind leader Beijing (10 points) and Suwon (seven points) but can force its way into the round of 16 if it wins its next two games and has other results go its way.

Roar defender Daniel Bowles believes anything is possible.

"We went through a form slump but we are playing our way out of that," Bowles said.

"We have the opportunity now to play some finals football - it's exciting.

"We've got two more games in ACL now.

"All the boys are buzzing and we will be going out there and giving it our all."
