Tonight in Lausanne, Switzerland, Australia's Michael Rogers will be presented with an Athens Olympic Games 2004 men's individual time trial bronze after lobbying by the Australian and Russian Olympic Committees succeeded in having the medals reallocated.
In a press release, the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) said that its president, John Coates, will present the medal to Rogers.
The 2004 race was first won by American Tyler Hamilton, but he was subsequently stripped of the honour after admitting to a career of doping.
Second in that race was Russian Viatcheslav Ekimov, now a sporting director with Katusha, and long-time servant of Lance Armstrong at US Postal Service (2000-2006) - the glory years.
Ekimov was later named by former team-mate and now credible witness Floyd Landis as one of several US Postal riders he saw transfusing blood during the 2004 Tour de France, of course the allegations were denied.
Ekimov will now officially be an Olympic gold medallist for the third time in his career.
Third at Athens was another American, Bobby Julich, currently a coach with Tinkoff-Saxo and someone who later admitted to doping during his career - just that one time in 1998.
He's now the 2004 silver medallist.
As far as we know Rogers did not dope for the 2004 event or any time during his career, but we do know the two men above him on that refreshed table almost certainly did.
So what exactly is the point of this exercise? For how long and how far do we pursue this rewriting of history? Is this even something to celebrate?
Of course this is cycling, so pending further relevations, Rogers may be on track to be a 2004 gold medallist by 2030 - maybe sooner.
