Juventus confirmed last week that coach Massimiliano Allegri will depart at the end of this campaign after five fruitful years at the club.

Speculation is rife about who could replace him, and on Tuesday La Gazzetta dello Sport reported Ronaldo approached the board of the the Italian giants to press for Mourinho's appointment.

“Two parties are pressing Juventus to take on Jose Mourinho as their new coach," the Italian newspaper claims.

"One, logically, is his representative Jorge Mendes and the other appears to be Cristiano Ronaldo, who has put their differences at Real Madrid to one side and backs the appointment of his compatriot.”

Mourinho fell out with Ronaldo, and several other Madrid stars, during their three seasons together in the Spanish capital, but the hatchet has apparently been buried.

Mourinho had a hugely successful spell with Juve's fierce rivals Inter Milan, delivering a historic treble in the 2009-10 season, and he is not popular with Juve supporters.

He was the target of jeers when his Manchester United side played against Juve in Turin in the group stage of this season's UEFA Champions League, and he taunted the fans after United claimed a surprise win.

The Portuguese coach last week told RMC Sport he hopes to be in a new managerial job by July.

The story has also been reported by Marca and AS.
