The Valencia shot-stopper, who underwent an operation to trim a torn meniscus in late August, was rocked back on his heels after the infection sent him from the training ground straight back into back into hospital a month into his recovery.
But in a boost for both Valencia and the Socceroos, the 23 year-old said after eight games on the sidelines, he is ready to fast track his comeback.
“I’ve received good news from the doctors. They tell me what I also feel myself, that I am well on my way to a comeback,” said Ryan, who could yet could thrust himself into contention for Socceroos' 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan in Canberra on 12 November and Bangladesh in Dhaka five days later.
“I have got clearance to take part in our training a lot more. At the end of this week I should be able to start getting back on the pitch again and I can't wait for that.
“My goal is to start working with the goalkeeping coach again next week maybe, and then I am not too far away from being fully match fit.”
Ryan could be challenging incumbent keeper Jaume Doménech for a starting spot for Valencia's Primera Division trip to Levante on 2 November.
“I just want to get back in goal for Valencia and Australia," said Ryan who underwent surgery a day after picking up his injury against Deportivo La Coruna on 30 August.
"It’s really unlucky that I caught an infection in the operated knee four weeks after the surgery.
"It's been a frustrating setback, because I had done everything the doctors and physical staff told me to do, but now I feel much better.”
