Sanchez hammered after yet another poor display for Manchester United

Alexis Sanchez has been heavily criticised on social media after another poor performance for Manchester United, this time against Wolves at Old Trafford.

Sanchez, who joined Manchester United in January 2018 from Arsenal, has now gone 831 minutes without a Premier League goal, the last one coming in March last season against now Championship side Swansea.

The Chilean international is the highest paid player in the Premier League on a five-year, £350,000-a-week ($626,870) contract, but in his first nine months at the club has failed to live up to expectations.

After another poor performance, Sanchez was substituted in the 63rd minute by coach Jose Mourinho.

Football fans and English media pundits did not hold back on the former Barcelona winger.

"Alexis Sanchez close to being the worst signing of the post-Ferguson era. Quite the accolade," tweeted respected football journalist John Brewin.

In ESPN's player ratings, Sanchez only managed a four out of 10.

"(Sanchez was) extremely disappointing -- he worked very hard, but his passing was loose and his movement was out of sync with his fellow attackers," wrote Musa Okwonga.

"He also failed to get himself into too many dangerous attacking positions. His failure to produce is becoming a substantial problem."

Some United fans were furious with yet another insipid match from a player they out-bid rivals Manchester City for.

Mourinho did not call out Sanchez's performance directly but did criticise his attacking players.

"(Wolves started better were more aggressive, had more intent and I don’t know why but they were more motivated," Mourinho said.

"I was expecting more from my attacking players. There was not enough creativity, movement or dynamism."

Manchester United next face Derby County on Wednesday in the League Cup, before travelling to London to face West Ham in the Premier League next Saturday.
