SBS to broadcast FIFA World Cup 2030™ LIVE, FREE and EXCLUSIVE

The new deal extends SBS’ relationship with FIFA and football’s showpiece event to 44 years, dating back to the 1986 World Cup.

Since then, the beautiful game’s best moments have been synonymous with SBS screens, and that will be the case once again in 2030 as Australians tune in to watch all 104 matches across SBS, SBS2, and SBS On Demand.

In a first for the FIFA World Cup™, and in honour of its centenary, the 2030 edition will also be played across three continents - with the opening three matches taking place in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, before the rest of the tournament continues in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

All six nations hosting matches will qualify automatically for the most geographically diverse tournament in the competition's history.

For SBS Managing Director Jane Palfreyman, securing the rights is a significant moment for football fans in Australia.

“SBS is without question the home of ‘the World Game’ in Australia and we are so pleased to retain the rights for 2030,” Palfreyman said.

“The FIFA World Cup™ is one of the few sporting events that truly brings Australians together across all cultures, languages and communities.

"In 2030, audiences will once again be able to experience every match live and free on SBS.

The announcement follows SBS' record-breaking FIFA World Cup 2026™ broadcast, which reached more than 18 million Australians, who consumed more than 209 million hours of content - with around 55 percent of that coming from digital - as well as massive growth achieved via the SBS Sport social media channels.

Retaining the rights to broadcast such a unique event is not lost on SBS Director of Sport Ken Shipp, who is proud to continue serving Australian football fans of all ages.
