Simonds Stadium get markings for 18-yard box wrong ahead of Victory, Jets match

Groundskeepers at Simonds Stadium in Geelong were forced into doing a quick repaint of the 18-yard-box before the match between Melbourne Victory and Newcastle Jets as they initially failed to get the dimensions correct.

For the third year in a row Victory have taken a match away from their usual home ground of AAMI Park to Simonds Stadium in Geelong, normally used for AFL games.

Fans who arrived early managed to take photos of staff re-marking the lines for the box in the lead-up to the match, sharing them on social media.

Luckily the lines were finished in time for the game and the hosts would go on to win 4-2, with Besart Berisha breaking the all-time record for A-League goals.

Simonds Stadium is set to be the home of a proposed A-League club, should Geelong be granted a franchise license when expansion is confirmed.
