Singh included in Bayern Munich's Champions League squad

Twelve months ago he was in pre-season training in Wellington, New Zealand, but today Sarpreet Singh was named in Bayern Munich's Champions League squad which could see him line up against Tottenham, Olympiacos and Red Star Belgrade.

Singh joined the German giants in July, and it's been a whirlwind two months for the 20-year-old Kiwi.

The midfielder joined Bayern's pre-season tour which saw him get game time against the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and AC Milan.

Since then he's played three times for Bayern's second team in Germany's third division where he has scored and produced an assist.

His goal against Unterhaching was even nominated for Bayern's goal of the month.

Today Bayern announced that the former Wellington Phoenix midfielder was one of four players from the reserve side who would be added to the 24-man first-team squad for the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League competition.

It is unlikely that he will see much game time, but if injuries hit Bayern's midfield, or they decide to rotate players in the final group stage match having already qualified for the second round Singh is a chance to get some minutes.

Singh would not be the first New Zealand international to have played in the Champions League.

Wynton Rufer was the joint top scorer in the 1993-94 season, along with FC Barcelona's Ronald Koeman, scoring eight goals for Werder Bremen.
