Stolen Orica-GREENEDGE bike found on sale for $192

A race bike stolen from Orica-GREENEDGE during the Vuelta a Espana valued at nearly $20,000 (€12,000) has been located in a Spanish secondhand shop where it was on sale for $192 (€120).

Police found the Scott Addict bike, complete with Dura-Ace wheels and groupset in a secondhand shop in Malaga while inspecting the shop for suspected stolen goods, say the BBC.

The bike was marked for sale at €120 when its 'exceptional technical characteristics' should have placed its value at around €12,000 ($19,260). RRP for a Scott Addict Team replica bike in Australia is closer to $11,000, but further customisation to the team bike will undoubtedly have increased its value.

A police statement said that the bike had not yet been reported as stolen by Orica-GREENEDGE as the team had not had time to call the police. However, investigators identified the machine as belonging to the team. The bike was returned to Orica-GREENEDGE ahead of the final stage.

A Malaga resident "with a long police record" had sold the bicycle to the shop, the statement said.

"We are going to offer a jersey with stripes on to the person who stole the Orica-GREENEDGE bike," said police on their official Twitter account.

"His race ends in jail."
