Twelve titles will be awarded over three days of competition in Time Trial and Road Race events across elite, under 23 and under 19 categories for men and women at the March 23-25 event.
The Championships feature riders from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tahiti, New Caledonia and Guam and will be the final UCI event in Oceania ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
"The UCI and Oceania Cycling Confederation are delighted to award the 2018 Oceania Road Championships to Tasmania for the first time in recognition of the growing role that cycling plays in Tasmania, for sport, recreation and active transport," President of the Oceania Cycling Confederation Tracey Gaudry said,
The Championships have been awarded to Tasmania following a week of racing in the State that saw the Tour of Tasmania and Stan Seijka Classic attract some of the biggest names in the region. Tasmania also hosted the Australian Junior Road National Championships.
"With many successful domestic cycling events established in Tasmania, we are delighted that the Tasmanian Government is actively supporting the introduction of international cycling to the State," Gaudry said.
"The Oceania Championships are the highest ranked international Championships in cycling after the World Championships."
