Telstra secure A-League streaming rights

The A-League will be accessible to more fans next season with Telstra signing a deal with Football Federation Australia to live stream matches.

The five-year-deal will allow Telstra customers to stream every A-League match, Socceroos and Matildas matches, as well as select FFA Cup and W-League fixtures via their “My Football Live app”.

In June, the telco will launch the app where it will show Socceroos content from the FIFA World Cup.

The app will not show any of Australia’s World Cup fixtures.

Non-Telstra customers will also be able to access the app for an annual fee of $99.

FFA CEO David Gallop said the deal was one aspect of the body's plans to drive greater engagement in Australian football.

“Our media rights strategy was to deliver content to as many Australians as possible anywhere, anytime and this new partnership with Telstra delivers on that commitment, helping us offer many more people the chance to watch the A-League, W-League, the FFA Cup and our national teams live,” Gallop said.

“As we saw with Riley McGree’s scorpion kick, the A-League can produce moments that generate millions of views globally.

“And with women’s football the fastest growing part of the game, fans will now have the new option of watching the Matildas and W-League on the move through Telstra.

“This is the first of a range of innovations FFA is working on for next season.”
