Mitchelton-Scott dominated the race, Damien Howson and Nick Schultz standing on the final podium with their younger team mate and Howson finishing third on the final stage behind winner Mauro Finetto (Italy) and Davide Gabburo (Neri Sottoli).
But Hamilton said it was his team's hard work that brought good fortune rather than luck.
"(Movistar) and Sky threw a few curve balls at us (on the final stage) but the team was just so strong, I didn't even have to touch the wind.
"We had strength in numbers still and it deterred them from trying again. I still had Damo and Nick helping me out even though they were second and third on GC, that shows the attitude that this team has.
"(It's) a full credit to the team this week."
The Victorian rider said stepping up has brought a new level of confidence, especially now with a major victory up against the likes of Mikel Landa.
"It's my second year pro. I really think I've stepped up from last year I'll go with a bit of confidence.
"These sort of races give you an opportunity to race guys like Landa on a smaller race and you get to test the legs against the best climbers in the world. (it's) good heading into the rest of the season."
Finetto won the stage after bolting away from a regathered peloton in the closing kilometres.
