A statement from the club simply read: "The Western Sydney Wanderers today announced the departure of defender Ruon Tongyik who leaves the club effective immediately.

"Tongyik signed for the Wanderers in May 2018, however a series of injuries limited his playing time this season and the player and club have agreed to mutually terminate his contract.

"The club wishes Ruon all the best in the next stage of his playing career.

Tongyik, 22, played just twice for the Wanderers in all competitions since joining from Melbourne City.

The Australia U-23 international centre-back also failed to feature at all in his second season at City after a promising first year.
