A stage of the 2021 National Road Series, the Tour de Brisbane returns in 100 days time on April 11 after the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation this year.
The main event of the Brisbane Cycling Festival will be a closed 110km Gran Fondo course which starts and finishes in the Brisbane CBD with over 1000 metres of elevation including a climb and descent of Mt Cootha.
Shorter 70km Medio and 30km Piccolo events will also take place.
More than 6000 riders are expected to part in the event with race director Mike Crawley spruiking some new additions for 2021
“For the first time ever we are using the Western Freeway and operating two courses – North and South, at the same time,” Crawley said.
“The northern course will open for the National Road Series and Oceanic races; whilst the Southern Course will open for the Gran Fondoist, who will then ride the northern course.
“This is truly an international ride and race course.”
Additionally, Tourism and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said: “Not only does the Brisbane region have some of the country’s best cycling infrastructure, the Brisbane Cycling Festival is an excellent way of showcasing our city’s quality visitor experiences".
