The 29-year-old left Melbourne Victory at the end of last season after contract negotiations broke down.

Troisi has since been linked with moves to Premier League team Brighton & Hove Albion and the MLS, while he was also the target of a number of A-League sides.

Haifa revealed on their facebook page that Troisi was in Israel to complete the transfer deal.

“James Troisi (29) landed in Israel for medical impressions and examinations,” the post read.

A move to Haifa would be Troisi's seventh European club with the Adelaide born player also wearing the shirt of Newcastle, Juventus, Atalanta, Genclerbirligi, Kayserispor and Zulte-Waregem.

After an impressive season with Victory which included six goals and six assists, Troisi further improved his stocks with a solid showing at the Confederations Cup which included a goal in Australia's 1-1 draw with Chile.

If Troisi joins Haifa he would join fellow Australian and former Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory midfielder Nikita Rukavytsya at the Israeli club.

Last season Maccabi Haifa finished sixth in the Israeli Premier League.
