Bolt, who retired from athletics after the IAAF World Championships in London last week, would line up alongside legends Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Dwight Yorke at Old Trafford against a Barcelona outfit including the likes of Ronaldinho, Rivaldo and Patrick Kluivert.

The charismatic eight-time Olympic gold medallist has made no secret about his desire to explore a career in professional football and claimed two weeks ago he was "waiting on a call from Jose Mourinho".

But Bolt's dream United debut could be dashed, with the 30-year-old racing the clock to be fit for the clash after pulling his hamstring in his last ever athletics race - the 4 x 100 metre relay final - on Sunday (AEST).

"This has been his dream for many years. He’s desperate to do it as long as he can get over the injury," a source told The Sun.

The latest legends match between United and Barca will be the second leg, after the Red Devils took out the first leg 3-1 at the Camp Nou in late June.
