Vardy confident goalscoring streak will continue

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy insists he is unstoppable and believes anything he touches turns to goals.

The England forward has netted in eight straight games and is closing in on an English Premier League record.

He is two games away from equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy's 10-match scoring streak the Dutchman set in 2003 while at Manchester United.

This week England boss Roy Hodgson gave no guarantees Vardy would start for the Three Lions in their practice matches against Spain or France this month.

But ahead of Sunday's (AEDT) visit of Watford the top flight's 11-goal top scorer is confident.

"Everything I'm touching is going in. Long may that continue," said Vardy, who continued his scoring run in last week's 3-2 win at West Bromwich Albion.

"That's how every striker should feel otherwise there's no point in being a striker, it's as simple as that, that's what I get paid for - to put the ball in the back of the net.

"Look at Riyad (Mahrez). He's second in the goalscoring charts now and it just shows the goals can come from everywhere.

"There's still a long way to go, I'll get back on the training field and look at how I can break Watford's defence but I need my team mates as well."

Vardy only scored five goals last season but his fairytale rise from non league to international football in just three years has continued and the 28-year-old reiterated he is not thinking about breaking Van Nistelrooy's record despite the hype.

"No, all that's at the back of my mind is getting a goal and three points," he said. "You remember seeing loads of the goals, but you don't remember seeing them coming in consecutive games.

"The amount of goals he scored, you'd probably think he'd scored in more successive games.

"But I've not really looked at stats like that, all I've thought about is getting as many goals as I can for Leicester."
