Vidmar, who was also assistant to Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou, paid the price for successive failures to qualify for the Olympic Games, and has been looking for a path back into management since ending his five-year tenure with FFA.

The ex-Adelaide United coach takes over from interim boss Surachai Jaturapattarapong on an 18-month contract on his return to club football, having led the Reds to the final of the AFC Champions League in 2008.

Vidmar,  who was introduced to the club by Australian agent Manuel Seisdedos, brings with him fellow Aussies Neil Young (goalkeeping coach) and ex-Fulham fitness coach Andrew Young as head of sports science.

Vidmar has recruited former FC Barcelona Academy coach Josep Ferrere as his assistant.

Former Brisbane Roar skipper Matt Smith is in his second season at the club which dispensed with the services of Spanish coach Ricardo Rodriguez last November.

Bangkok Glass are sitting third on the Thai Premier League ladder after 25 rounds.
