According to a report by the BBC, the 33-year-old is expected to sign with the A-League club until the end of the season.
He will be the first signing for Newcastle's Welsh coach Carl Robinson who took over as Jets boss earlier this month.
Ledley comes to the Jets as a free-agent after his one-month contract with Championship side Charlton Athletic expired in January.
Prior to joining Charlton, the former Crystal Palace and Cardiff City player had gone four months without a club after leaving Derby in August in search of first-team football.
The signing will help Newcastle bolster their midfield stocks after the loss of veteran Ben Kantarovski to a long-term injury.
Ledley was a key contributor in Wales incredible run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 playing in every game.
