Wanderers' weapon Bulut in the clear to return to action

Western Sydney Wanderers striker Kerem Bulut is eligible for selection in the club's Round 21 match against Melbourne Victory on Friday night, despite being under investigation over an incident at a McDonald's restaurant on Tuesday evening.

Bulut was on Wednesday stood down by the Wanderers from the game against Melbourne City that night - a match won 3-2 by the home side - after the club was informed of the incident that occurred at McDonald's in Auburn.

The 23-year-old striker is due to appear in Burwood Local Court on 7 April after being charged with one count of intimidation on Wednesday and released on conditional bail.

The club released a statement on Thursday saying it would respect the legal proceedings and have made the decision Bulut will be available to play Victory at Parramatta Stadium.

"Kerem will be eligible to play in this Friday night's match after he was stood down from playing in last night's match against Melbourne City," Wanderers chief executive John Tsatsimas was quoted saying in the statement.

"The due process in place from a legal perspective will be respected and the club will be refraining from making any further comment until all facts are ascertained and investigations are complete.

"We will continue to work with Football Federation Australia, the relevant authorities, Kerem and his management throughout this time and can make no additional commentary until the matter comes to a resolution."

Football Federation Australia gave its backing to the club over its handling of the incident.

"FFA has been informed by Western Sydney Wanderers of an incident involving Kerem Bulut and the subsequent action by NSW Police," an FFA spokesperson said.

"FFA supports the steps taken by the club in this matter and will await further advice from the club."

Bulut was said to be at Auburn McDonald's with a group of friends on Tuesday night when staff allegedly asked them all to leave.

Police were told the group then threatened the store manager and allegedly said to him they should take the argument outside.

Bulut presented himself to Auburn police station at 4pm on Wednesday where he was charged.

It is believed Western Sydney will view CCTV footage to determine Bulut's involvement before deciding if the club will impose any further punishment on the striker.

This is not the first time Bulut has caused headlines for the wrong reasons, with the the 23-year-old being charged with gang-related crimes in 2010.

He spent over four years playing in Europe before returning to Australia to join the Wanderers in January.

Bulut, who has only played two games for the club, scored a double on debut in the heated 4-3 derby loss to Sydney FC last month.
