Wednesday's Luongo reflects on 'most frustrating year in my career'

Massimo Luongo has labelled this past year "the most frustrating" of his career after injuries curtailed his playing time with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 27-year-old was seen as a major coup for the Championship club upon his August arrival last year, having become a star in four seasons with Queens Park Rangers.

And while Luongo may have impressed supporters during his minutes on the pitch, persistent injuries have seen him spend more time off it.

“It has been the most frustrating year in my career," Luongo told Yorkshire Live. "I have not been able to play every week.

“I had to wait for my chance to break into the team and then I got injured.

“I think when I have had the chance to play I have shown what I am about. I think I played with a lot of passion, did really well and scored a couple of goals.

“Hopefully I can stay fit for the rest of the season.

“If I am fit, I am confident I am going to play in the majority of those games.”

The Socceroos midfielder was set to make his long-awaited return to action in March before the coronavirus brought the season to a standstill.

Wednesday sat 15th in the league standings and eight points adrift of the final playoff spot with nine games remaining.
