'We’re playing better football' - Mkhitaryan's dig at Emery

Henrikh Mkhitaryan took a little swipe at ex-Arsenal boss Unai Emery, saying he prefers Roma coach Paulo Fonseca "offensive" style of play.

Arsenal midfielder Mkhitaryan, on loan at Roma, said he feels better suited to the style they play in the Italian capital and had a dig at former coach Emery, implying he was too defensive.

The 31- was flitting in and out of the Gunners' starting XI before his loan move, but hit some excellent form for the Giallorossi right before the COVID-19 crisis - with three goals, two assists in his last four Serie A games.

“When I was at Arsenal, I had different things asked from me by the coach, people were expecting different things from here,” the Armenian said to The Times.

“The philosophy of Emery was different from Fonseca, but here I’m feeling much better because we’re playing better football and I think it matched me.

“I prefer Fonseca’s football because we’re playing very offensively, we’re trying to have the ball all the time here and of course I like this kind of game.”

Fonseca has often praised Mkhitaryan and wants to sign him permanently, but the loan spell expires at the end of the season without an option to buy.

“I can’t say anything at the moment because the season is stopped, we don’t know when we’ll start playing again and what will happen in the summer," continued Mkhitaryan.

“Football changes so quickly. One day you’re here, the other you’re there.

"You never know what can happen and what will happen with you.”
