What really went on at Cristiano Ronaldo's party

New footage has emerged of Cristiano Ronaldo's notorious 30th birthday bash which is set to reignite the debate on whether the Portuguese star was right to host an extravagant shindig just hours after his side suffered its worst Madrid derby loss - 4-0 - in decades.

The YouTube vision shows the Real Madrid attacker, clad in a gold top hat, busting dance moves on stage alongside Colombian Regaeton artist Kevin Rolton.

Such was the outcry from fans over the infamous party, Ronaldo's manager, Jorge Mendes, lept to his client's defence during a Spanish radio interview for Cadena Ser.

"He was very angry," Mendes said. "Any player that loses a game – and more so Ronaldo, who is a great professional, who continues to be the best professional in the world – would be angry.

"The fact is that his birthday party had been organised more than a month ago and he had family coming from abroad.

"He didn't want to cancel out of respect for the people that came. Ronaldo was devastated after the defeat and people spent two hours trying to cheer him up."

While injured Madrid stars Sami Khedira and James Rodriguez face sanction by the club for breaking protocol by going out when they were required to be resting, Ronaldo's only crime may be one against good dancing.

Even Portugal football legend and FIFA Presidential candidate Luis Figo felt moved to jump to his compatriot's defence on Twitter.

The party furore comes at the end of a tough period for Ronaldo since winning the 2014 Ballon d'Or at a glittering ceremony on 15 January (AEDT). First there was the news he had split up with model girlfriend Irina Shayk, then a three-match ban after he received a straight red card for lashing out at Cordoba Edimar barely a week later. Then the derby loss, and now this.

No doubt the world's best player will be keen to use his legs for good and not dancefloor evil, at home to Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday (AEDT).
