Who is new Adelaide United coach Guillermo Amor?

Spaniard Guillermo Amor is a legend in his native Barcelona and played the vast majority of his professional career for the Catalan giant.

Johan Cruyff gave Amor his debut in 1988, and it was Louis van Gaal who deemed him surplus to requirements a decade later.

Amor had a 12-year career in his homeland, which was bookended by a two-year stint at Villareal between 2000 and 2002.
He made a mammoth 421 appearances for Barca, and is the eighth highest capped player in Barcelona history.
Amor is in good company. Xavi Hernandez, Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta, Migueli, Victor Valdes, Lionel Messi, and Carles Rexach sit above him in the top ten, with Andoni Zubizarreta and Joan Segarra in ninth and tenth.

Between his spells at Barcelona and Villareal, Amor spent two years at Italian side Fiorentina. Curiously, Amor ended his career at Scottish side Livingston, for whom he made three appearances in his career's twilight.

Amor alos won 37 caps for Spain during a glittering career, and played at EURO 1996 in England and the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
Despite his spells at Villareal and Livingston, Amor was not lost to Barca.

He returned after his retirement and spent four years coaching in the youth system, before taking up a role as technical director of football training.

In August 2014, Gombau invited Amor to come to Australia, where he signed a one year contract as the club's technical director.

Now though, he is in the hot seat, with a tough act to follow.
